Choosing 16:9 or 9:16 for AI Video

Frame your generation for websites, presentations, Shorts, Reels, and TikTok.

Aspect ratio is a creative decision, not just an export setting. It changes where the subject sits, how the camera can move, and how much environment the viewer sees.

Choose 16:9 for wide storytelling

Landscape video works well for:

  • website hero sections and product pages
  • YouTube, presentations, and display screens
  • scenes where the environment is part of the story
  • lateral movement, two-person compositions, and wide product layouts

Keep the main action away from the extreme edges if you may later crop the result for social media.

Choose 9:16 for mobile-first viewing

Portrait video works well for:

  • Shorts, Reels, TikTok, and story formats
  • a single person or product centered in the frame
  • vertical movement and close details
  • full-screen mobile placements

A vertical-friendly visual direction

Do not rely on a later crop

A wide composition cropped to portrait can remove hands, products, or important motion. If both formats matter, generate each ratio intentionally and adapt the prompt:

  • for 16:9, describe the relationship between subject and environment
  • for 9:16, describe a clear central subject and stacked foreground/background
  • keep text and logos out of the source frame; add typography in your editor after generation

Preview the output in its real destination before publishing. A shot that feels balanced in a desktop player may feel empty or overly tight on a phone.
